Why PEI?

Pennsylvania Real Estate is an extreme risk play, however I believe they have strong potential moving forward if they can make it through their current issues. As a mall REIT, PEI has been a long forgotten investment due to the “Mall-pocalypse” facing many retailers as online businesses such as Amazon drive traffic away from brick and mortar stores. However, anticipating this inevitable collapse, PEI decided to sell all of its most at risk and low income producing assets and pump all available funds into renovating their remaining portfolio. As a result, PEI’s malls have been tailored to a more experience based shopping center that draws consumers in for a longer time.

Although PEI is far from out of the woods, the potential reward from this company prospering far outweighs the risk.

Risk play. Understand product – Mall. Seen local mall expand and evolve over time and understand the push towards experience shopping vs. just retail. Facing a lot of problems from mall problems. Turnaround is about to be completed and should see trend back up. Extremely high dividend yield.
