Why 3M?
With a 61+ year dividend growth history, this company has long been on the S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrat’s list. With that status, comes the understanding that 3M has paid a dividend, without interruptions, for over 100+ years, while also consistently increasing that payout over the last 61+. All in all, 3M has always been a company solely dedicated on investor return.
With 3M’s EXTENSIVE product line of almost 23,582 unique offerings, their ability to weather almost any storm through product diversification is among the best in the country. From Post-it notes to Military grade body armor, this company has its hand in a vast array of industries.
Since its founding in 1902, 3M has survived two world wars, incredible social changes, and even two pandemics. Through it all, it has been able to modify its business to thrive. Therefore, any investor can feel confident that over the long term this company will make it through any challenges thrown its way.
For me, I believe this company’s product line and consistent focus on conservative growth year-after-year proves it will be able to reach new heights in the future. In addition, the products the company sells and produces are staples in a majority of our lives (most we don’t even recognize as a 3M product). Although it may go through some rough patches, such as poor management, over the long run this company has proven it is capable of surviving through even the toughest of times.
